Biography

Gheorghe Olteanu of Brașov competed in the 50 kilometres cross-country skiing event in the 1952 Olympics and was the first of his four countrymen to cross the finish line, coming in 22nd place.

A member of the CSC Armata București and Dinamo Brașov skiing clubs, he enjoyed a highly successful cross-country skiing career in the 1950s, winning 11 national titles and placing in the top six of various international cross-country skiing competitions from 1950 to 1956 including a first place in the 4×10 km relay at a competition in Bulgaria in 1954. Olteanu was awarded the title of master of sports, and became a cross-country skiing coach for Dinamo Brașov after his retirement from competition.
