Biography

Pentti Pelkonen was active in cross-country skiing during the 1950s and 1960s and won his first Finnish title, in the 3x10 kilometer relay, in 1955. Individually, the closest he got to the national podium was when he was fourth in the 30 kilometers in 1961 and in the 50 kilometers the following year. His most significant international appearance, meanwhile, came at the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics, where he placed sixth in the 50 kilometers. He also competed in orienteering and was later successful at the masters’ level, continuing to participate into his 90s. By career he was a forestry technician.
