Biography

When Rudolf Riedl competed in St. Moritz at the 1928 Olympic Winter Games, he was still at the beginning of his career. His first major international appearance came shortly before the Olympics at the 1928 World Championships, where he only skated three distances. At his second Worlds in 1931 he placed sixth.

Competing in the European Championships he finished 6th (1929), 14th (1931) and 3rd (1932). The latter result was achieved in the absence of the Norwegian skaters. At home, he won the Austrian Championships in 1931 and 1932 and placed second in 1930 and 1933. During his career, he set eight national record between 500 m and 5000 m.

Personal Bests: 500 – 44.8 (1933); 1500 – 2:21.9 (1933); 5000 – 8:41.3 (1933); 10000 – 18:24.8 (1932).
