Biography

Canadian-born Mike Schmidt was an ice hockey defender who competed at the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics with the German team. In total, he won 69 international caps, scored six goals, and played in four World Championships from 1989-1992.

Domestically, Schmidt played in Germany with Hamburger SV (until 1980), Berliner SC (1980-82), Mannheimer ERC (1982-84), Düsseldorfer EG (1984-93), EC Hedos München (1993-95), Kölner Haie (1995), and SC Riessersee (1995-96). He won the German national title with Düsseldorf four years in a row 1990-93, with München in 1994, and finally with Köln in 1995.

After his active career he enjoyed a coaching career with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers, Hamburg Freezers, ERC Ingolstadt, Düsseldorfer EG Metro Stars, and Adler Mannheim.
