Alois, father of Nathalie Schwarz, was an Austrian cross-country skier participating in the 1988 Calgary and 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics. He finished 31st, 18th and 41st over 15, 30 and 50 km respectively in 1988, and with the Austrian 4x10 km relay squad finished tenth. Four years later the relay placed ninth and he finished 29th over 30 km.
Domestically, Schwarz won several Austrian national titles and participated in four World Championships. He worked as a customs officer and as a ski supervisor for the Fischer company.
On his way home from a state cup cross-country race in Rosenau in January 1999, Schwarz had a fatal car accident on the motorway a few kilometres from Sattledt. His heavily pregnant wife Margarete and his two children survived with minor injuries.
