Leif Solheim was a member of Furuset Ishockey in Oslo and won top league titles with the team in 1949, 1951-52, and 1954. Internationally, he had his greatest success with the Norwegian team at the 1951 European Championships, where he won a bronze medal. The following year, he and his older brother Øivind were selected to represent their country at the 1952 Oslo Olympics, where they finished last among the nine entered teams. In 1959 he was awarded the inaugural Gullpucken, which for many years was given annually to the best Norwegian ice hockey player.
