Biography

A versatile skier, Alfons Supersaxo was a Swiss champion in the combination event of cross country skiing, ski jumping, downhill skiing and slalom skiing (a competition no longer held). He also won five national titles in the Nordic combined, and several more in cross country skiing. At the 1948 Olympics, he was the first non-Scandinavian in 13th place, moving up to 10th place four years later. He was honoured for this performance by being allowed to carry the Swiss flag during the closing ceremony.
