Biography

Luigi Tornielli was born into an aristocratic family and inherited the title of marquis. Despite having limited experience in winter sports Tornielli was selected to captain the second Italian bobsled in the five-man event at the 1924 Chamonix Olympics. After the first run the Italian crew were seventh overall, but more than two-and-a-half minutes down on the best time, and did not start the second of four runs. Tornielli also played tennis and competed in several tournaments in Italy during the 1920s. From 1927 to 1933 he served as the President of the Italian Ice Sports Federation.
