Biography

Andrzej Wołkowski had one of the longest careers of any Olympic ice hockey player, lasting from 1929 through 1958. He competed at the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Winter Olympics and the World Championships in 1933, 1935, 1937-39, and 1947. In 1939 he was given the sportsmanship award at the Worlds. Wołkowski was capped 56 times.

As might be expected for somebody who played for 30 years, Wołkowski was with multiple clubs, starting with Sokol Kraków, but he also played with Cracovia (1933-39, 1946/47), Gwardia Kraków (1948-58), Legia Warszawa (1933/34), Kraków Combination (1931-36, 1937/38), Katowice Combination (1935-38), and Podhale Nowy Targ (1953/54). He became a coach, coaching the Polish national team in 1957-58, and coaching league teams in both Poland and Yugoslavia.
