Biography

Robert Zurbriggen competed in cross-country skiing at the 1948 Winter Olympics, but also helped Switzerland win the demonstration military ski patrol event, as Zurbriggen was, at the time, an oberlieutenant (first lieutenant) in the Swiss Army. In his career Zurbriggen won two national titles, winning the 1947 18 km championship and the 1948 50 km event at Adelboden. He later became a ski and mountain guide in the Valais, serving as the director of SC Allalin from 1944-49. He lived in Saas-Fee and was a member of the commune council for several years. Zurbriggen was also the director of the Saas-Fee ski school and was a member of the Société de Guides.
