Biography

Flatwater canoeist Ludwig Landen won the gold medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics with his partner Paul Wevers in the K-2 over 10 km. A few weeks earlier the two men had won the German Championship in this event. The same year Landen also became European Champion in the then non-Olympic K-4 over 1,000 metres. Perhaps surprisingly Landen was a non-swimmer.
