Canoe Marathon at the 1936 Summer Olympics

Dates 7 – 7 August 1936
Medal Events 5

Canoeing became an Olympic medal sport in 1936 and has remained on the Olympic Program since that year. There were nine events in 1936, four in kayak, three in Canadian canoes, and two in folding kayaks events, the only time that style has been used at the Olympics. There were five canoe marathon events contested over 10,000 metres for kayak singles and doubles, folding kayak singles and doubles, and Canadian singles. Folding canoe events never again appeared on the Olympic Program.

The races were contested at the Regattabahn, which also hosted the rowing events, in Grünau, located in the Treptow-Köpenick section of Berlin. The course was laid out on the Langer See, a small lake formed from the Dahme River in southeastern Berlin.
