Venues

Curling was on the programme of the 1st Olympic Winter Games at Chamonix, in 1924, and current thinking considers it to have been a full medal sport that year. It was also demonstrated at the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Winter Games. In 1998, curling returned to the Olympic Programme as a full medal sport at Nagano, and, as of 2022, the sport maintains that Olympic status.

In 1936 and 1964, the variant form of German curling, or eisstockschießen, was demonstrated at Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Innsbruck, respectively.

In 1932, curling was approved as a “native” sport for demonstration in Lake Placid. There were eight teams, with four from Canada and four from the United States, representing three Canadian provinces (Manitoba, Ontario, Québec) and four USA states (Connecticut, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York).
