Luge at the 1988 Winter Olympics

Dates 14 – 19 February 1988
Medal Events 3

The bob and luge track in the Calgary Olympic Park was the first artificially refrigerated track built in Canada. During competition, the lugers not only had to negotiate the course but also had to combat the warm and strong Chinook winds. The women’s competition was suspended for a day because of this. The East German sliders were undaunted by the weather conditions, and won all three gold medals, and six out of nine overall, a performance only second to their eight medals in 1972.
