Ski Jumping at the 2006 Winter Olympics

Dates 11 – 20 February 2006
Medal Events 3

The 2006 ski jumping events were held in Pragelato, a small commune in Torino Province and Piemonte Region. The events were conducted at ski jumping hills specifically built for the Torino Olympics. The normal hill in 2006 had a K-point of 95.0 metres while the large hill’s K-point was at 125.0 metres. There was no change in the program or formats since the 1994 Winter Olympics, with three events – individual normal hill, individual large hill, and team large hill. As in 2002, the individual events had a qualifying round with 12 jumpers seeded into the final round based on World Cup points. Austria’s Thomas Morgenstern won two gold medals in 2006, on the large hill and in the team event, while Norway’s Lars Bystøl won three medals, gold on the normal hill, and bronze on large hill and in the team event. 2006 was also notable for an unusual number of disqualifications as officials were strict on such matters as the permeability of ski suits and the length of skis.
