Curling at the 2014 Winter Olympics

Curling was held in Sochi’s newly-built Ice Cube Curling Center, a 3000-seat venue that had opened its doors in 2012. The 2014 tournament’s six medals were shared by three nations, with Canada becoming the first country to win both the men’s and women’s gold medals since the sport was reintroduced in 1998. The women continued their streak of being the only nation to win a medal at every official Olympic tournament, while the men maintained a similar run for tournaments since 1998, when the sport was officially reintroduced (Canada did not compete in the 1924 curling tournament, which was not considered official until 2006). With their men taking silver and their women capturing bronze, Great Britain doubled its historical curling medal count, having previously earned gold in the men’s and women’s event in 1924 and 2002 respectively. While the Swedish women had won a medal every year that the sport had been available to them, except for 2002, the men’s bronze was the first medal since their silver in 1924.
