Equestrian Jumping at the 2016 Summer Olympics

Dates 14 – 19 August 2016
Medal Events 2

The equestrian events at the 2016 Summer Olympics were held, generally in front of sparse crowds, at Rio’s National Equestrian Center, which formed part of the Parque Olímpico de Deodoro. The only change in regulations since 2012 concerned the size of teams in dressage and eventing. Prior to the Rio Games dressage teams comprised of three rider/horse combinations while eventing had five. This was now evened out so that both disciplines had teams of four.

Individual jumping and the Grand Prix de Nations were held at the 2016 Olympics, but they were conducted as separate competitions. The individual jumping’s first two qualifying phases started the jumping, followed by the Grand Prix de Nations, followed by the final round of the individual competition, which ended the equestrian events in Rio de Janeiro. Nick Skelton was in his seventh Olympics, having won a team gold medal in 2012, but in Rio he won his first individual medal, the gold. France took the team gold medal in Grand Prix de Nations.
