Equestrian Eventing at the 2020 Summer Olympics

Dates 30 July – 2 August 2021
Medal Events 2

The eventing section of the 2020 Games was shared between Baji Koen Equestrian Park, a venue reused from the 1964 Tokyo Olympics (dressage and jumping), and the Central Breakwater, an artificial island in Tokyo Bay that hosted the cross-country phase.

A major change in regulations between Rio and Tokyo was the reduction of team sizes in eventing from four down to three. This increased the risk of teams failing to finish so that, in order to mitigate this, it became possible to substitute a rider into the event if a combination was eliminated or withdrawn at the end of one of the phases.

Great Britain won the team gold for the first time since the 1972 Games and, although Michael Jung could not retain his Olympic title, Sandra Auffarth made sure the gold remained in Germany. Andrew Hoy of the Australian team was 62 years 175 days old when the medals were allocated, making him the oldest Olympic medallist since 1968.
