Sailing at the 1924 Summer Olympics

Dates 10 – 26 July 1924
Medal Events 3

The sailing competitions of the 1924 Olympic Games were held at the same two venues that were used when the Games first visited Paris in 1900. The Cercle de la Voile de Paris on the river Seine at Meulan-Les-Mureaux hosted the single-handed Olympic monotype class whilst racing for the two larger classes of boat took place off the coast at Le Havre.

The 1924 Games began a period of stability in the Olympic programme after the numerous changes between 1900 and 1920 with only the addition of another class in 1932 disturbing the pattern that was laid down in Paris.

Norway was the dominant nation with victories in both 6 metre and 8 metre classes and a clean sweep for Norwegian sailors was only thwarted by the veteran Belgian Léon Huybrechts who finally won an Olympic title 16 years and two near misses after his Olympic début in London.
