The two mass start races in the 2025/26 World Cup were won by Norway’s Maren Kirkeeide, the Olympic sprint winner, and France’s Julia Simon, the 15 km gold medalist. The event was considered wide-open, however, as multiple other top biathletes had won medals in the seasonal World Cup, among them Italy’s Lisa Vittozzi, winner of the pursuit six days prior, and France’s Océane Michelon and Lou Jeanmonnot, both with multiple medals at MiCo26. Justine Braisaz-Bouchet was present and the defending champion, but struggled throughout Milano-Cortina. Elvira Öberg was the 2025 World Champion at Lenzerheide in front of Océane Michelon and Maren Kirkeeide.

The big surprise of the race was Czechia’s Tereza Voborniková, who led leaving the fourth shooting range, ahead of Sweden’s Anna Magnusson, with Simon in third and Michelon fourth. Michelon had the strongest finish, however, taking her second gold medal, after the women’s relay, and third medal of the Winter Games. Behind her Simon also pulled ahead of Voborniková to take silver, for her fourth medal of Milano-Cortina, after golds in both relays, and the individual 15 km. Voborniková held on for bronze, the only one taken by Czechia in 2026 biathlon, men or women.

This event concluded the 2026 Winter Olympic biathlon programme. France dominated the women’s medal table with three gold medals and seven medals in all, followed by Norway with three medals and gold in the sprint. Italy, with Lisa Vittozzi’s gold in the sprint, Bulgaria, Czechia, Finland, Germany, and Sweden each won one women’s biathlon medal.
