This was one of the three new ski mountaineering events, a sport which made its debut at Milano-Cortina 2026. The ski mountaineering events were held at the Stelvio Ski Centre in Bormio, Italy.

The women’s sprint event started at an altitude of 1,200 metres and ascended 65 metres over a track length of 725 metres before descending. Three heats were contested with six skiiers each, with the top three in each heat and the three fastest lucky losers advancing to the semi-finals. The top two in each semi-final and the next two fastest skiiers advanced to the final.

The favorites were France’s Emily Harrop, a two-time World Cup winner in the current season, and her teammate Margot Ravinel, who had finished 1-2-3 in the three Sprint World Cups this season. They won the semi-finals to advance to the final, where they were joined by Switzerland’s Marianne Fatton, the 2021 and 2025 World Champion. Home favorite Giulia Murada also made the final, but only as a lucky loser.

Harrop took the lead in the final, but Fatton passed her in mid-race and pulled away to win by over two seconds, with Harrop winning silver. Behind her, but over 10 seconds behind Fatton, Spain’s Ana Alonso took the bronze medal with a fast finish, passing Germany’s Tatjana Paller near the end. Ravinel was in third for much of the race, but struggled on the final section and placed last among the finalists, passed on the final downhill by Murada.
