Francesco Verri also won this race for the second of his gold medals. A tie for second place occurred between Henri Menjou, Herbert Crowther, and Émile Demangel, who were two-fifths of a second behind Verri. They competed in a race-off for the silver and bronze medal, which was won by Crowther, with Menjou taking the bronze medal. In the run off, Crowther equaled Verri’s time of 22 4/5 seconds. Demangel would also win an Olympic cycling medal in 1908, finishing 2nd on the track at 660 yards.
