Three US sculls were entered in this event, with the title going to the Atalanta Boat Club double of John Mulcahy and Bill Varley. They also competed together in the coxless pairs, placing second. Mulcahy had won a national title in double sculls when he was only 15 years old, in 1891, partnered by M. F. Monahan.
