Biography

Jamie Nieto was a high jumper who competed at the 2004 and 2012 Olympic Games, placing fourth in 2004 and fifth in 2012. He was also seventh at the 2003 World Championships. Nieto was twice US Champion, winning the 2004 and 2012 US Olympic Trials, which doubled as the US Championships. He also won the US Indoor Championships in 2004 and 2008. Nieto attended Eastern Michigan University, where he placed sixth in the 1998 NCAA Championships. He was ranked in the US top 10 for 15 consecutive years – 1998-2012.

In August 2016 Nieto was seriously injured while doing a backflip. He was initially paralyzed from the neck down but recovered some function and was able to walk down the aisle in 2017 at his wedding to Shevon Stoddart. Stoddart was an Olympian for Jamaica in the 400 metre hurdles in 2004 and 2008 and later appeared as a singer on “America’s Got Talent” in 2020.
