Biography

Norwegian biathlete Stian Eckhoff started his career by winning silver in the 4 x 7.5 km relay at the 1999 Junior World Championships in Pokljuka, Slovenia. Eckhoff made his World Cup début the following year, winning two individua sprint 10 km sprint events, both in Östersund, Sweden, in 2004 and 2005. With consistent results at the World Championships, he finally won gold in the 4 x 7.5 km relay in 2005 in Hochfilzen, Austria. The following year Eckhoff competed at the Torino Olympics, finishing fifth in the relay, along with 16th in both the sprint and individual events.

Eckhoff later worked as a coach for the Norwegian Biathlon Association, before serving as the head coach for the elite women from 2014 to 2018. His sister Tiril is also a noted biathlete who won eight medals, including two golds, at the Olympics.
