Biography

John Baldwin started as a singles skater, winning the US Novice title in 1987. At the senior level he competed in singles at the US Nationals from 1994-2000, with a best finish of ninth in 1995. Baldwin also briefly skated pairs in the 1990s with Tristan Collell, finishing ninth at the 1992 World Junior Championships. In 2000, Baldwin paired with Rena Inoue, who had skated for Japan, and had immigrated to the United States in 1996. Inoue and Baldwin have had a long career together, culminating in their engagement in 2008. At the US Championships they won the title in 2004 and 2006, were second in 2005, 2007-08, and third in 2009-10. Inoue became a US citizen in 2005, and she and Baldwin competed at the 2006 Torino Games. They have competed at six World Championships, with a best finish of fourth in 2006. Inoue and Baldwin have continued in Olympic-style competition through 2010, in which they finished third at the US Nationals, but they were not named to the US team for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
