Biography

Joe Fargis competed at the 1984 and 1988 Olympics, winning three medals, with golds in both the individual and team jumping events in 1984. He also won a gold medal in team jumping at the 1975 Pan American Games. Fargis made over 30 Nations Cup appearances on the jumping circuit. He also worked in the sport’s administration, serving as a committee member of the American Horse Show Association (the predecessor to the US Equestrian Federation [USEF]), United States Hunter Jumper Association, and United States Equestrian Team, and was on the Board of Directors of the Board of Directors of the Upperville Horse Show. For his contributions to the sport, the USEF awarded Fargis their Jimmy A. Williams Lifetime Achievement Trophy. Fargis rode and trained in Middleburg, Virginia.
