Biography

Tan Eng Liang was a Singaporean water polo player and sports administrator. Tan was part of Singapore’s water polo team that competed at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics although he did not play in any matches. He did compete at the 1958 and 1966 Asian Games with Singapore winning the silver medal each time. Tan also won gold at the South-east Asian Peninsular Games in 1965 and 1967.

After his career in the pool Tan became the Vice-President of the Singapore National Olympic Council and the chairman of the Singapore Sports Council. In 2008 he was selected as a member of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee. In 2010 Tan was the bearer of the Olympic flag at the Opening Ceremony of the Summer Youth Olympics and was awarded with the Olympic Order in Silver.
