Biography

C. A. Kraft followed in his father’s footsteps and embarked on a military career. He graduated from the officers’ training school and completed training at the riding and saddlery school. From 1908-12, he was a teacher at the military riding school and member of the board of the War Science Society, and wrote for Danish newspapers. During this period, Kraft visited the riding schools in Hannover (GER) and Saumur (FRA) and pursued language studies in Paris in 1912/13. After serving as squadron commander at the 4th Dragoon Regiment in Næstved from 1913-15, he was appointed as adjutant to the Danish King Christian X. Kraft held this position until 1919. He was appointed Knight of Denmark, Knight of the Swedish Order of the Sword, Knight of the Norwegian Order of St. Olaf, Knight of the French Legion of Honour and Knight of the Finnish Order of the White Rose.

During his time at the riding school, Kraft competed in the eventing competition of the 1912 Olympic Games but had to withdraw after the steeplechase section. He did not start in jumping and dressage events. In 1918, he was co-founder and chairman of the Danish Equestrian Federation. Kraft married Elin Johanne Baumann in 1905. The couple had two daughters.
