Biography

In preparation for the 1976 Olympics Dennis Murphy won the Pre-Olympic meet in Montréal in 1975, also adding a gold medal in team jumping at the 1975 Pan American Games. In 1978 Murphy earned a bronze medal in the World Championship and won the International Rider Champion Award at the Washington International Horse Show. In 1980 he and his horse Lyrical Lou set a world record of 7-8 (2.34 m) in puissance jumping. When he retired from competing Murphy settled on a horse ranch in Vandiver, Alabama, his home state.
