Christopher Wegelius

Christopher Wegelius was a Finnish banker and a show jumper. Wegelius won six national championships (1971, 1973–74, 1977, 1981, 1988) in the latter career, along with multiple silver and bronze medals. A regular on the European Grand Prix circuit, he was selected to compete at the 1980 Moskva Olympics, placing 12th in the individual event.

As a banker Wegelius served as a member of the board of directors of the Finnish Savings Banks Group (Säästöpankkien Keskus-Osake-Pankki) from 1977 to 1984, before becoming their CEO in 1985. In the early 1990s the bank was at the centre of the Finnish banking crisis, with Wegelius accused of reckless share trading. He was eventually cleared by the Finnish Supreme Court in the early 2000s.

From 1971 to 1981 Wegelius was married to the English-born Elizabeth Jane Murray. Their son Charly was a professional cyclist who represented Great Britain at the 2004 Athina Olympics.
