Biography

West German cyclist Sandra Schumacher was the surprise winner of the bronze medal in the individual road race at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. The following year, she added another bronze medal at the UCI World Championships. In both years, she also won the national title. In 1986, Schumacher finished sixth in the Tour de France Féminine. She then retired after not being nominated for the Seoul Games in 1988.

After marrying fellow cyclist Mathias Kratz in 1990, and after giving birth to her first child, Schumacher made a brief comeback in 1993, riding in the Tour de Feminin Krásná Lípa and then finishing third in the 1995 Thuringia Tour.
