Wes Chowen competed for the North Hollywood Wheelmen and attended Southern Cal. While at USC he was in Naval ROTC and his ROTC unit was hired to march as Roman soldier extras in the filming of the movie “Spartacus.” Chowen was a road racer who competed at the 1960 and 1964 Olympics, but he also raced at the 1967 Pan American Games on the track, winning a bronze medal in the team pursuit. After college Chowen joined the Marines, and became a pilot. He later became a commercial pilot for United and Continental Airlines, with he and his wife eventually settling in Denver.
