Biography

Table tennis player Steffen Fetzner represented West Germany at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and re-unified Germany at Barcelona and Atlanta in 1992 and 1996. With his partner Jörg Roßkopf, he won the doubles silver medal in 1992, and was fourth in 1996. In the singles in 1992, he survived the group stage and reached the round of the last 16 before losing to the Swede Jörgen Persson.

With Roßkopf, Fetzner had his greatest moment in 1989 when the pair won the World Championships. Between 1988-96 they also won six national titles. In 1993, Fetzner also won a team bronze medal at the Worlds. In total, he won 206 international caps. After his active career he turned to coaching and was also vice-president of the German Table Tennis Federation from 2005-07.
