Biography

Jørgen Jørgensen was a Danish amateur cyclist who was active in the late 1950s and early 1960s. After finishing third in the road race at the 1959 national championships, Jørgensen was selected to compete at the 1960 Roma Olympics. At the Games he rode in the ill-fated 100 kilometres team time trial. The race was made infamous following the death of compatriot Knud Enemark Jensen, who died after collapsing off his bike mid-race due to heatstroke, suffering a fatal brain injury. Jørgensen also failed to finish the race due to suffering with heat stroke. After the Olympics he road in that years’ edition of the Peace Race, where he had three top-10 finishes, in addition to placing 28th overall.
