Biography

Wilfred “Freddy” Vias played for Malaya at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic hockey tournament. Vias was a fullback who played for Selangor, Johure, and Negri Sembilan. He played for North Malaya from 1949-56 and was capped against India in 1954 and Singapore in 1954-56. Vias captained the Malayan team in 1954 and 1956. Vias toured Hong Kong with the Malayan Indians in 1954 as vice-captain. He also played cricket with Selangor, Malocco, and Johor. Vias worked as a probation officer and was a secretary of the Negri Sembilan Hockey Association.
