Biography

Austrian fencer Roland was the brother of Ingrid and the son of Josef Losert. Roland carried his country’s flag at the 1968 Olympic Opening Ceremony. Ingrid missed the Olympic qualification in 1976 then, after becoming a German citizen, was a victim of the Moscow Olympic boycott in 1980.

Roland Losert finished an unfortunate fourth in individual foil at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. In épée he placed ninth both individually and with the Austrian team. Four years later at Mexico City he had lesser success in all three events, as he did in 1972 at München.

In 1963, Losert won the World Championships in individual épée. In 1967, he added a bronze medal at the Summer Universiade. He later studied French and English and became a teacher.
