Biography

Abelardo Menéndez competed for Cuba at the 1952 and 1956 Olympics, fencing in individual épée both years and individual foil in 1952. Menéndez won a bronze medal in team foil at the 1951 Pan American Games. He was a gold medalist in team foil at the 1954 Central American and Caribbean Games.

Menéndez competed in the United States in the 1950s and won the US National Championship in épée in 1952. He opened a law practice in Havana in 1958, but in February 1962 emigrated to the United States where he settled in Miami, Florida, continuing his practice of law there. Menéndez became a US citizen in 1976.
