Biography

Phoenix native Judi Adams began archery in middle school and by the later 1970s was one of the top American archers. She won a team gold medal at the 1979 Pan American Games, and an individual silver medal and team bronze medal at the 1979 World Championships. She earned a spot on the ersatz 1980 US Olympic team that was forced to boycott the 1980 Moskva Olympics.

Adams never rose to the same heights again. She tried to make the US Olympic team in 1984, 1988, and 1992, but came up short each time. She retired after the 1992 US Olympic Trials, but came back to compete again in 1995 and 1996, and made the 1996 Olympic team. Adams competed in both the team and individual events at Atlanta.

Adams graduated from Arizona State University, after starting at Glendale Community College. Adams started working for American Express after college and advanced to become a project manager, retiring from the company after more than 30 years with them.
