Bini did not compete in the final pool, in which Italy took the gold after a close victory over Hungary. He had also entered the individual final but withdrew with the other Italians after Oreste Puliti was disqualified for insulting the Hungarian judge Kovacs after he made a ruling that cost Italy a victory.
