Biography

With the sabre, Gianfranco Dalla Barba won two Olympic medals as a member of the Italian team. In the final of the 1984 tournament, Italy defeated France easily (9-3). Four years later, the Italians again defeated the French, this time by only a single touch, in the bronze medal match. At the World Championships, Dalla Barba won five medals, a silver individually (1983), and two silvers and two bronzes with the team. He has also won the Italian sabre title twice, in 1982 and 1984.
