Patricia Tarabini

Argentine professional tennis player Patricia Tarabini won Grand Slam titles as both a junior and senior player. Tarabini achieved a career-best singles ranking of #29 in the world in May 1988, and a doubles ranking of #12 in the world in August 1998. She won gold at the Pan American Games and bronze at the Olympics, and played on Argentina’s Fed Cup team from 1989 to 2004.

As a junior player Tarabini won the girls’ doubles title at the 1985 French Open with Mariana Pérez Roldán and the girls’ singles title at the French Open the following year. On the ITF Circuit Tarabini won two singles and six doubles titles from March 1985 to February 2004. On the WTA Tour she finished as the runner-up at three singles finals, but had better success in the doubles where she won 15 titles. Her first doubles title came in July 1989 in Arcachon, France, with Sandra Cecchini as her partner. With Cecchini as her partner Tarabini won seven doubles titles and went on to have further success with Conchita Martínez.

Tarabini won gold in the doubles at the 1995 Pan American Games with her partner Mercedes Paz. The following year Tarabini and Javier Frana won the mixed doubles title at the French Open with victory over the American duo of Luke Jensen and Nicole Arendt. Tarabini competed at three Olympic Games; 1992 Barcelona, 1996 Atlanta, and 2004 Athína. At the Barcelona Games she once again partnered Mercedes Paz with the pair reaching the quarter-finals. After a first round exit in the doubles at the Atlanta Games, Tarabini and Paola Suárez won the bronze medal at the 2004 Athína Olympics.
