Biography

A former water polo player with Abertillery, Penarth and Cardiff University, W. Turner Lintern was later secretary of the Powell’s Tillery Institute Swimming Club. He went on to be involved with the Welsh ASA in many capacities over the years, and became secretary after World War I. He was also a water polo referee and judge, and in 1920 was a judge at the Olympic trials at Southport. Four years later Lintern officiated in two matches as a referee and goal judge at the Paris Olympics. For the 1928 Games in Amsterdam, he was a member of the British Olympic Swimming Management Committee, responsible for team selection.

When the International Swimming Federation formed the International Water Polo Board in 1929, Lintern was one of four members from Great Britain invited to join. He later became president of the Welsh ASA, and was a member of the council of the British Olympic Association.
