Biography

Carmelo Ortega coached the Cuban basketball team at the 1972 and 1976 Olympics, leading them to a bronze medal in 1972. Behind him, Cuba was also fourth at the 1974 World Championships, and won gold that year at the Central American and Caribbean Games. Ortega also led Cuba to a bronze medal at the 1971 Pan American Games. Ortega was a teacher and coach at the Manuel Fajardo Higher Institute of Physical Culture.
