Masatoshi Ozaki was a Japanese basketball coach who worked with the Hirano Factory women’s team after graduating from university. Ozaki helped the team to win multiple Japanese league titles in the late 1960s and 1970s. His success earned him the role of head coach of the women’s national team, leading them to the gold medal at the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran, followed by silver at the 1975 World Championships. In 1976 Ozaki led the women’s team in the basketball tournament at the Montréal Olympics. Japan had a disappointing Games, however, finishing fifth out of the six teams to compete. He continued to coach the team until the 1979 World Championships in Seoul. Although the team topped their group, they only won one match in the final round to finish sixth overall. Ozaki later joined the Japan Basketball Association where he served as their President from 1999 to 2003. In 2021 he was inducted into the Japanese Basketball Hall of Fame.
