Biography

Tomás Carbonell was a Spanish tennis player. Carbonell played professionally from 1987 to 2001. He achieved a career-best doubles ranking of 22 in the world in October 1995, and a singles ranking of 40 in the world in April 1996.

As a junior player Carbonell, and Czechoslovakia’s Petr Korda, won the doubles tournament at Wimbledon in 1986. Carbonell continued to have a successful doubles career as a professional. He won his first ATP title in November 1987 at the Buenos Aires Grand Prix with his partner Sergio Casal. Carbonell won 22 ATP doubles titles during his career, with his last victory coming in September 2001 at the Campionati Internazionali di Sicilia.

Carbonell and Sergi Bruguera competed in the doubles tournament at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics where they reached the quarter-finals. In Grand Slam matches Carbonell reached the semi-finals of the doubles tournament of the French Open in 1999 and 2000. In the mixed doubles he and Vivi Ruano won the 2001 French Open.
