Erik Imler

Erik Imler played college soccer (football) at the University of Virginia, helping them win the NCAA title in 1991 and 1992, after they were co-champions in 1989. Imler was named second-team All-American twice during his time with the Cavaliers. As a junior player he played for the US National U-17 and U-20 team. He also won a gold medal at the 1991 Pan American Games.

After playing at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, Imler turned professional in 1994 and began playing with the Delaware Wizards of the US Indoor Soccer League. He played itinerantly through 1999, playing successively with the Raleigh Flyers, then DC United of MLS, followed by the Worcester Wildfire, the New England Revolution, the Charleston Battery, and then ending his career with the Lehigh Valley Steam.

Imler later became a soccer coach, serving as an assistant both at his alma mater and at The Citadel. He started as a head coach at the Charlotte Soccer Academy in North Carolina, but in May 2008 became the head coach of the Belmont Abbey College women’s team. In 2010 he was named an assistant coach with the US Men’s national U-17 team.
