Biography

Competing in light-heavyweight and heavyweight during his career, Matti Aho reached the second round as a light-heavyweight at the 1960 Olympics, losing to Bulgarian Petar Spasov. Besides his Olympic appearance, Aho won heavyweight bronze at the 1961 Nordic Championships and was a five-time Finnish champion – in 1956, 1958 and 1960 in light-heavyweight and 1957 and 1961 as a heavyweight. He also won light-heavyweight bronze at the 1955 Finnish Championships. His brother Viljo also competed at the 1960 Olympics, as a welterweight.
