Lucien Van Welden

Lucien Van Welden was a regular official at volleyball matches in both his native Belgium and across Europe. Van Welden officiated at multiple major tournaments during his career including the European Cup and the Olympics. At the latter he refereed at the Games in Mexico City in 1968 and München in 1972. The highlight came at the München Games where he took charge of the final between Japan and East Germany, along with fellow referee Costin Mușat. Away from volleyball Van Welden ran a holiday company in Switzerland.
