Biography

Gymnast A. V. Ford (probably Albert Victor Ford) was an excellent rope climber and was captain of the Wrangthorne Gymnastics Club in Leeds. He also went on to captain the Leeds district in the Inter District Teams’ Championship in 1909, when they won the title for the second successive year. Ford was also the Leeds and district individual champion three years in succession 1908-10. A council worker with the Leeds Corporation, Ford was a member of their gymnastics team that competed in the Leeds District Gymnastics League and they were champions and Harding Shield winners in the three years 1909-11.

Ford also wrestled locally, and in 1909 reached the featherweight semi-final at the Yorkshire Amateur Wrestling Championships. He also took part in the Northern Counties Championships that year.
